Linda and Mike said their goodbyes to Maddie on November 2, 2013. Maddie was a trooper all of her life. She battled cancer for 18 months, enjoying her time with Linda & Mike, continuing to do many of the things she loved best up until the end.
Maddie earned her Junior Hunter title in October of 2011, and then two weeks later qualified in Senior Hunter both days on her first weekend out at that level - Way to Go Linda and Maddie!!!
We have always been extremely proud of Maddie and Linda! One of our Briallu puppies and my younger sister..........
Maddie was (AKC) CH. MACH2. BRIALLU LOVE HER MADLY UDX, RAE, OF. She was the first Welsh Springer Spaniel to earn the American Kennel Club's prestigious MACH title! For her latest acomplishments, Maddie earned her AKC Utility Dog Excellent title in obedience in September 2008 and her MACH2 title in agility in July 2008.
I am immensely proud of Linda and Maddie. Linda has taken every bit of the potential that Maddie showed as a young puppy and channeled it into a dog who works well, and loves to perform. Maddie gives her whole heart and soul to everything she does. Linda and Maddie were an incredible team! We love them both.
With her non-akc titles included, Maddie is now CH. MACH2 Briallu Love Her Madly, UDX, RAE, OF, ASCA UD, U-CDX, Can CD, TT, CGC
Maddie was such a special puppy; sweet, eager, outgoing and motivated. We had planned to keep her, but we knew Linda could help her reach her potential in ways we would never achieve. Linda is the only person that could have ever taken Maddie from our home.

Captain (Cappy), the former Abbott, is the darling boy who tried his darndest to make me break my rule and let a WSS boy stay in our household of girl dogs!
He now lives with one of the very few people in the world with whom I would have shared him. He is living the life that every Welsh Springer dreams of, trying his paw at field work, obedience, agility, and the breed ring with Sandy Madden in Massachusettes. Cappy is handsome, sweet, and a retrieving wonder, and he and Sandy make an awesome team! DOB: January 21, 2010

Lainey is the puppy we initially chose to keep from our January 2010 litter. Lainey loves to swim, loves to retrieve, and loves to have fun! And yes, Lainey has a long TAIL! This is the first time we did not dock tails on our litter of WSS puppies.
Lainey shows excellent promise for obedience, rally, or field activities. Since we do not have the time in our lives for performance training and events to do her justice, Lainey is now living with a wonderful couple, where her new mom is enjoying training and working with her, and we look forward to all of their wonderful performance accomplishments. Lainey is living the life she so justly deserves, and is a very happy girl. We are so proud of Pat and Lainey for earning her RN title!!!

"MAZIE"
(CH. BRAFCI’S TRUE COLORS CD X RYSAN'S WYNONAH OF BRIALLU)
December 29, 1991 - June 26, 2006
OFA Good
On Monday, June 26, 2006 we said farewell to Mazie. She was wonderful, sweet, charming, and incredibly devoted. She enriched our lives, we loved her, and we will always miss her.
Her legacy lives on in her daughters, sons, and grandpups; both those living here with us, and the others who enrich the lives of the people who love them. She has gone on to join the dogs who have graced our lives before her.
Rest well Mazie, 'till we meet again!
Mazie was BOS in Veteran Sweepstakes at the 2000 WSSCA National Specialty in Illinois. She proved the old adage that quality shines through, from youth to old age. Mazie was Best in Puppy Sweeps at the 1992 Regional Specialty in Georgia, and Best of Opposite Sex in Puppy Sweeps at the 1993 Independent National Specialty in Pennsylvania. She was the dog always at my side, a great traveling companion and chore dog, and I am proud to have been her breeder, owner and her best friend.

CH. SHUK'S KYNA ROSE CD
"KYNA"
(Ch. Deckard's Pendefig X Kizzy)
September 1979 - February 1992
Owner/Handler Barbara Shuklis Smith
Kyna, my very first Welsh Springer, was the most wonderful dog imaginable. She went EVERYWHERE with me. She was the perfect companion. She helped me to fulfill so many of my dreams. She was beautiful, happy, and eager to do anything I asked of her. She came to me by way of Bill and Jane Pferd. I had the very fortunate opportunity to be invited to the Pferd's residence on the day in 1979 that they were to select a puppy from a litter sired by their wonderful Welsh, Nicholas. Bill and I got to temperament test and evaluate the entire litter, and each of us were able to select the puppy we wanted. Kyna looked me in the face, and followed my every move, and destiny was realized. There have been many Welsh Springer Spaniels in my life since that day, and I have loved them all, but none have ever meant more to me than Kyna.

Dinah made her debut as a veteran in January at American Spaniel Club. She and Piper showed beautifully and placed second in the veteran bitch class, losing only to the veteran bitch who went on to earn BOS.

On September 1, 2013 we bid a very sudden, unexpected, and tearful goodbye to our wonderful girl. Our only consolation was that her illness came on suddenly, and she did not suffer. She will live on in our hearts forever!
Justine was a very sweet, beautiful girl with exceptional movement. Jussie was the daughter of Piper's first champion, Dinah, and Piper's breeder/owner handled Welsh. Justine is Piper's buddy and the wonderful bond between them is evident in their excellent performance in the conformation ring.
Jussie took her first two points from the puppy class with a Best of Opposite win at Ramapo KC in October 2004. At the Sand & Sea Sunday show in 2005, Justine earned her First Major & Best Of Breed over 10 Welsh, from the BBE class! Justine earned an additional two points from the Bred By Exhibitor class at the Union County KC show in May 2005 in Freehold, NJ. Piper and Justine won the very competitive Bred By Exhibitor class at the prestigious American Spaniel Club show, January 2006.
Piper and Justine were back in the ring again in May 2006 with outstanding results!!! Justine earned another 2 pts. going WB/BOS at the Bucks County KC show! Justine earned her Second Major on May 13th, 2006! Piper and Justine were the winning team again, going BW / BOS at the Chester Valley KC show. This summer, Justine was BOB at Byn Mawr KC and again at Tioga KC to earn another couple of championship points.
Justine and Piper finished Jussie's Championship in style with a fabulous win at the WSSCA supported entry at the Sept. 1st Newton KC show. Jussie earned WB/BW for a 4 point major, over an entry of about 20 class bitches and dogs.
Congratulations to Justine, our champion, and Piper, her co-breeder/co-owner with Barbara/and handler!
We're very proud of our girls!

"Lilah" - Greyhound
2/27/05 13 years old
LILAH
DOB: December 1991 - Adopted: December 1993
On October 3, 2005 we said good-bye to Lilah, our greyhound. She was just two months shy of her 14th birthday, and shared our home and our lives for almost 12 years. We adopted her from New Jersey Greyhound Adoption Program (their 2nd adoption!) in early December of 1993, the month she was turning 2 years old. The track may have been finished with her, but her real life as a dog was just beginning. The evening we went to select her, out of a group of 4 girls that Jennifer had arranged to be brought down from a track in New England, she decided right away that SHE was to be our greyhound. We walked into the large fenced yard, where the five newly rescued greyhounds were allowed to stretch their legs. "Pixie Lady" took one look at four year old Piper and decided this was her girl, and would not leave her side. The other greyhounds barked, ran, dug, jumped, but not Lilah. She ran when and where Piper ran, and followed her everywhere she went. When we introduced her to one of our Welsh Springers, whom we brought along, she passed the test with flying colors, and seemed to decide right away that this could definitely be a friend.
Within a short amount of time Lilah learned to climb the stairs, so she could share Piper's bed - hey Piper was so small, and that bed was so big and soft! She shared Piper's bed up until her later years when she could no longer get on and off of it. Lilah came alive with her Welsh Springer companions. She even swam and retrieved bumpers from the lake with them. She just figured that's what real dogs do. She could outrun all of our other dogs, and used to love to circle our entire yard, where she could only be caught up to by the Welsh that figured out that cutting corners sometimes worked. Lilah was gentle and sweet with everyone, including our cats. Visitors to our home always seemed to gravitate to Lilah. She was forever eager to great everyone who came through our front door as if they had come just to visit with her. In her later years Lilah developed a special bond with Roxie, our Schipperke, who loved to jump up to lick Lilah's face, and sneak onto the sofa to nuzzle up to her. They looked so cute together; our largest and smallest dogs sharing a bond that transcended size. Lilah has left her mark on every member of our household. Lilah was a wonderful addition to all of our lives. We loved her, and we miss her.
